Frequently Asked Questions

Will a dedicated project manager be assigned for my translation?
At Octopus Translations your project will be taken over by a dedicated project manager, with whom you can communicate any time you need. If this project manager is unavailable, another will be assigned and instructed to handle your requests. The project manager evaluates your requests, calculates the costs and determines the deadlines, selects the most appropriate team to carry out the project and closely follows their progress. Our project managers are dedicated and flexible and easily understand your needs.
Do you have a client-friendly pricing policy?
We have implemented a very client-friendly discount system because we want to develop long-term business relationships that are profitable for all involved. The main criteria for determining discounts are volume and consistency of work. A larger volume of works means continued larger discounts. In some situations we also include special services free of charge- for our loyal customers.
I got a much lower price quote from another provider.
Translators that cost surprisingly little are a business risk. In the translation industry, quality is very rarely obtained by accident, so it’s best to find a serious business partner. This partner will not be able to reduce prices a great deal because of the costs involved in doing the job right: certifications, specialized staff (project managers, proofreaders, quality assurance, terminologists), offices etc. If you care about your clients and quality, choose a translation provider carefully – this can make all the difference between you and your competition. Always request offers to be as detailed as possible in order to be better informed regarding contracted services.
Who translates the documents we send you?
It is always a translator with at least 3 years of experience in the field, who has met our selection criteria. One of our criteria, besides the translation test, is specialization in the domain you work in. Although we receive dozens of applications every week, only a few translators end up working for us.
How do you determine your prices?
There are several widely accepted standards: price per word, per page or per line. We use all of these standards, depending on our customers’ preferences, though we always prefer price per word, which most truly reflects the length of a document.
By 'instruments of translation' (CAT tool), do you mean automatic translation, such as Google Translate?
We never use automatic translations, so-named Machine Translations (MT), even though the market offers professional solutions which may become useful for your organization. Our translations are performed strictly by professional translators, with experience, aided by software tools designed for professionals in the translation field. A CAT tool simplifies the translator’s work by facilitating the reuse of previously translated text – meaning greater speed and lower prices.
Is management of terminology important?
Inconsistent and incorrect use of certain terms can only be avoided through the creation of terminological glossaries and access to them for all content creators. Lack of content control inevitably leads to confusion among users, and any work invested in localization is wasted. In this case, the time and money allocated to the task grow out of control.
How could my company benefit from the use of translation memories (TMs)?
Octopus Translations can suggest several solutions for creating translation memories: whether it’s created from existing translations or during the process of translating a project. Both options offer you the possibility of accessing these memories to reuse their content.
How can I be sure that I have given my translation job to the right agency?
It is good to be sure that the partner you select has experience in your field, has a rich history, invests in improvement, holds an ISO certificate, responds quickly to your requests and has both an office and a landline telephone.
